Join us for a sinister evening of theatre, puzzle solving and ghostly encounters.

It was 1871, and every level of the pumping station was bustling with activity in preparation for the grand opening of the 100” Cornish Engine, when two unexpected guests from the workhouse arrived demanding to see the small boy who had been apprenticed to the Chief Engineer.

Now, more than a century later, a child’s crying has been heard from beneath the Cornish Engine and it is starting to unnerve the tourists. The Museum has invited the master of the supernatural, Jack Daw, to awaken the past and uncover the truth.

You must solve the mystery in groups of six so bring friends or we can put you into a group with other audience members on the night.

Victorian High Tea is included in the ticket price.

High Tea includes vegetarian options. If you have any other dietary restrictions please email info@immer-city.com before buying your ticket. Unfortunately this show is not wheelchair accessible.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
"Think of an interactive murder mystery in which you, the audience, must solve the crime, and you’ll probably imagine a seedy hotel ballroom in the off-season downtime. But The Silhouette in the Smoke is a genre-busting show that breathes new life into a tired genre....This is a show that achieves all it sets out to do, with wit and style. The magnificent surroundings of the pumping station provide the perfect backdrop, and the actors’ characterisation never wavers under pressure. A hugely enjoyable evening, which cannot be recommended too highly. (And the high tea was a real bonus.)"
Everything Theatre

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
"...the looming threat of the powerful machines all lend a deliciously gloomy air of menace and otherworldliness to the proceedings...It’s all about the fun of the chase, the atmosphere and the escape from the cold, dark reality of January. Theatre doesn’t get much more interactive or much better than this."

A brilliant evening. the venue and the players really made you feel like you were back in time to when the 'event' took place. it was quite clever how it was worked so that not everyone was in the same place at the same time so everyone could see and hear what was happenning. A clever script giving little hints when the right questions were asked to help you work out who was the most likely culprit. this was the first time we had been to a interactive event like this but will certainly be going to some more as we all thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Congratulations to all the players who were very convincing in their respective roles. Visited London Museum of Water and Steam on 2018-03-29

I had never been to an immersive theater before so didn't know what to expect-but this was amazing! Great story and amazing actors, we had so much fun! I would definitely recommend :) Visited London Museum of Water and Steam on 2018-03-29

A murder mystery. Great interaction with all the characters in an amazing building, which has been dimly lit for this ghostly experience. You are put into small groups to solve the clues. This was enjoyable, fun but with some really good acting. You only have to participate as much as you want so its a good introduction to immersive type events for those that are concerned about the interaction. I would recommend this. If you can go with a group of friends (up to 6) its a great night out together, but equally we went as a 2 and had a brilliant night. Visited London Museum of Water and Steam on 2018-03-28

Was visiting from New York and was recommended the show by a friend. Worth visiting just for this show alone! Had so much fun running through the museum at night. Really got into it. The cast was fantastic, beautiful costumes, and a very engaging story.

Absolutely loved it! The venue is so atmospheric, the acting amazing and the story really very gripping. I loved how, as a team, we were encouraged to work together and piece together the story. Even though you were only following one character at the beginning, it didn't feel as though you had missed anything and it was incredible how the various characters interacted and the story overlapped. Wonderful!! Congratulations to all cast and crew! Visited London Museum of Water and Steam on 2018-02-15

The Silhouette in the Smoke is a fantastic way to spend an evening in the atmospheric environment of the London Museum of Water and Steam which is integral to the mystery enacted before you. After the initial meet and greet you are led into the depths of the building where you will meet your fellow sleuths and given a briefing of the evening’s agenda over a beautiful and genteely prepared Victorian High-Tea. The organisers and cast were all terrific and totally credible in their characterisations and were particularly brilliant with the immersive elements in the show. The size of audience was just right, keeping the experience very intimate and real, and also helped to make everyone feel involved and not just be an observer; it really is a group effort. Do dress warmly and wear sensible shoes. Do pay attention and keep up with the action as often the dialogue can be lost due to the acoustics in some areas of the building. I look forward to future events by this very creative team. Visited London Museum of Water and Steam on 2018-02-14

Outstanding from start to finish. The cast played the characters supremely well and drew you in from the start. Matilda was the star for me who portrayed her character with esse and had most of us believing her every word. One bit of feedback would be that at times the cast were too close together when the shouting started and ee ciuldnt hear what was being said by individuals. The ending was done just right building the intensity to see if ee all got it right (yes our group got it spot on). The setting is genius and use of surroundings within the play spot on, hats off to the writers. Well done all a truly fantastic night. Visited London Museum of Water and Steam on 2018-02-14

We couldn't stop talking about the amazing night we had at this event - getting to visit the venue after dark itself was worth the trip alone! Excellent acting from all the actors and a really clever plotline meant there was never a dull moment and kept us guessing 'whodunnit' till the end. The delicious Victorian tea that was served was just the icing on the top! Visited London Museum of Water and Steam on 2018-01-19

Genuinely amazing. The writing is captivating, and the direction allows you to interact with the piece in unique ways. The unsettling storyline is lent a palpably grizzly atmosphere by its setting in the Water and Steam museum. So. Much. Fun. Visited London Museum of Water and Steam on 2018-01-19

Had an absolutely wonderful evening at the Silhouette in the Smoke! I was delighted to be in the museum of Water and Steam after opening hours, it really sets the mood for the story you're about to be part of. The piece is very much interactive as well as immersive. Both a personal and team experience, which I thought was wonderful. And, you get High Tea on top of that. What more to ask? Gloomy, noir and beautifully written! Make sure you go! Really enjoyed the premier performance of The Silhouette in the Smoke! We had quite nice afternoon tea while waiting for all groups to come through, to get instructions and to decide who to follow. Amazing place for the perfomance - Water and Steam Museum with all its huge steam engines and machinery (always wanted to visit). Interesting scenario, quite complicated, on one hand, but can be solved quite easily (so you can leave the show being proud detective). And, of course, great acting! We liked it from the beginning to an end, and would highly recommend the perfomance! Visited London Museum of Water and Steam on 1970-01-01
